I can walk the town, and still figure out that we're renting the cop-shop, and that when someone breaks into my car (and 35+ others) it IS an issue that NO police officer stopped by to dust for prints. I could be wrong, but I'd be willing to lay a $50 on the fact that whoever busted up our people's cars probably has a record. In which case, we could bust 'em with just a little more work.
Direct question: how will I back up Community Watch? My plan is to sponsor a community forum, on how our citizens can support crime prevention in our community. Is there any reason our Police wouldn't want to attend such an event, and inform (and listen to) our citizens? |

Devon,
Why would you have to be elected to council to sponsor a forum? And why couldn't any citizen call the city manager and ask that the police department do a more through job? |

| Devon: If you took the time to talk to the police or the Chief instead of going off halk cocked you might learn some things - I did. Most police Agencies who don't have a crime lab rely on CBI that's the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to process evidence like finger prints that are submitted. Car break in's have a low priority and as such it might take a year to process one set of prints. In addition most car break in's are done by kids who are not treated the same as adults and most don't have finger prints in the automated system. |

Why all the insults like "going off half cocked"? Is that really necessary? Isn't it enough to know this particular candidate is concerned about car break- ins and would like to see what we can do to become more secure as a neighborhood? I like that idea and perhaps at a community forum we would ALL learn juvenile offenders may not be finger printed so what else can we do about car break- ins?
Why, we might learn from our knowledgeable police force a lot of information that would benefit us all, not just you or Devon - taking up our busy Police Chief's time...
There is much to know about crime prevention and knowing there is someone running for office who would like to adovate for that cause is enough. If you think that is a good cause for a Councilman, vote for Devon! At least we know one of the ideas he would like to work on if elected.

| IT SOUNDS LIKE DEVON HAS A BONE TO PICK WITH THE CHIEF BECAUSE HE WAS A VICTIM OF A MINOR CRIME IN HIS LIFE LIKE MANY OF US. I HAD MY CAR BROKEN INTO AT MY OFFICE IN THE CITY OF DENVER AND WAS TOLD DENVER OFFICER'S DON'T RESPOND TO THOSE CRIMES ANYMORE. I WAS GIVEN A CHOICE OF THEM MAILING ME A FORM TO FILL OUT OR REPORTING IT ON- LINE. IF I HAD TO CHOOSE I WOULD TAKE OUR POLICE SERVICE ANYDAY. EITHER WAY IT'S JUST PART OF LIFE. I DON'T SEE HOW BOGGING DOWN CRIME LABS AND SPENDING THOUSANDS OF EXTRA DOLLARS WE DON'T HAVE JUST TO BUST SOME DELINQUENTS IS REALLY COST EFFECTIVE BUT THATS MY OPINION. DEVON WANTS TO CUT BUDGETS AND TRIM THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUDGET HOW CAN THAT HAPPEN IF HE ALSO WANTS COP'S TO DO EXTRA THINGS THAT THE CHIEF SAYS ARE NOT WORTH WHILE........... SEEMS KIND OF CONTRADICTORY TO ME BUT AGAIN JUST MY OPINION. WHY NOT LET THE CITY MANAGER AND THE CHIEFS DO THIER JOBS? CRIME IS DOWN, THE NEIGHBOORHOOD LOOKS MUCH BETTER, AND IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING. |

What? For wanting to hold a public forum on crime prevention?
1. I doubt Devon blames the Chief because his car got broken into
2. Crime Prevention is a valid social topic and we can all learn how to better protect ourselves and our neighbors if we learn more.
3. Public education about crime prevention is one of the jobs of the Police Department.
PS all caps is so passe'... |

I remember reading about this same subject years ago on the stick. If Devon was so concerned about crime prevention why didn't he start a neighborhood watch like many other citizens did?
I'll tell you why. He did not care enough then and only cares now because he needs the extra money a council seat would provide.
All his whineing is largely a waste of time because we have so many open slots, if he just stopped crying about it he might get elected. He is just making himself look foolish.
I look forward to someone defending him so go ahead and join him. |

I HATE all caps, but sometimes there is a reason to be heard, and therefore a reason to raise your voice. I agree with the ALL-CAPS poster. Devon is grossly out of touch, and listening to a very small, and disgruntled segment of our community. To be concerned is one thing. To have the ability to identify, and implement a solution is another. Devon isn’t there yet. Maybe he sees the problem, but he is not capable of enacting a solution.
