Will the Ice Ranch or developer make more than $250,000 in one year? If so why would they want to do that if a certain person becomes the leader of the Free World?

Hmmmmm. He has a point. After all why is the Ice Ranch project now stalled? What happens in Washington does at some point filter down to 20th & Depew. Up to now Edgewater has been it's own worst enemy but we have to look at things in a whole new light with the current economy. Economic hard times has a way of changing everything and the last time I checked no politician wants to really address the storm on the horizon. Nelson McNulty told me , about three years ago, that he felt the country was headed for a depression. Think I'm going to write Nelson in for Prez.

Specialization of talent is key to success. The Ice Ranch folks are not developers, they are an ice arena family. That is what they know and what they do. To force them to play the role of developer would compromise their ability to do what they do best. I think it is very unfair to even suggest, let alone mandate, that a private investor exceed the scope of their original and agree upon contract. If the city wants a specific development the city can either step up and do it them selves, or put forth the effort to find someone who is interested in doing it for us. That’s our problem. Edgewater is constantly looking for some handout, someone to do ‘it’ for them. The Ice Ranch is interested in, and proposed, an ice arena - period. It is not the Ice Ranch’s responsibility to build some kind of copycat venture that has nothing to do with their business model. If YOU want a stage and live music, go get financed and build a venue. Don’t expect someone else to do it for you.

I have to agree with guest of 8:17 am. The property has already been deeded to the Ice Ranch. They are only asking for an extension to begin development. It would be unfair, and, in my humble opinion, unwise to put any further restrictions on them. The city is already benefiting with this deal. We get property taxes now. When we owned it there were no property taxes. The land has to be maintained by the owners. This means they have to plow the parking lot when it snows, patch the asphalt, pay for the lighting.....

I think that Bonnie and Jim Taylor and Nelson should be allowed to redevelop the Ice Ranch even though Council has already approved the deal (with overwhelming support from the citizens) and the City has deeded the property. Look at how successful that trio of bobbleheads has been for the city already with their great leadershp and ideas.
Maybe we should reconsider putting a nursing home or welfare offices in there after all and then make sure to micromanage the new owners to take care of our own vain delusions. Just an idea.
I am pleased Council finally stood up and made a bold informed decision after watching those idiots spin in circles for the last four years under Nelson's lame leadership.
If Ice Ranch needs an extension, give it to them. Don't be stupid or short-sighted. If they decide also that they want to copy some un-named city's approach to retail entertainment and eateries on the periphery, let them have at it.
As to letting the gang of three monkeys dictate what the Ice Ranch does with the property, not in my lifetime please. |
