Good LuckMight want to check and see who the 800 or so people who vote in our city our 5400 and campain to them. Check the last 2 elections. I bet if you called them, they would vote for you.
|
Too new to have voted
|
You make it sound like they should ignore the majority of our people. I'm sure I misunderstood you. What about all the new, young people that just moved here and haven't voted in edgewater yet? I hope they talk to everyone. Maybe more people would vote.

5400 - 800 = 4600. How many of that 4600 are new? Yeah you should spend time with them. But if someone has not voted in 2 years you are not going to get elected by talking to 85% who did not vote instead of the 15% who did.
If you want to get elected you should talk to registered voters and know who they are. Don't waste you time talking to be who are not registered.

So are you really saying that if you don’t vote you are a waste of time?

When it comes to elections? Pretty much. Generally speak those who can vote but don't, don't really care about government and it's influence on them. That is until it affects them in a way they find disagreeable and then they complain. They still don't vote but they complain, a lot. Why should I care what they think. (I'm not running for office by the way, not this time anyway).
VOTE, it is the best way to have influence on your government.

Just to make it clear the orginal person who talked about registered voters did not write the last responce. But I agree with it.
People died to save democracy and others can't register to vote.

My bad. I thought those guys were supposed to show us how they could serve the community, not how they could manipulate the election. It’s all about winning. I get it now. Thanks.
I guess I won’t be expecting flyers on my door. Wonder who I’ll vote for?

Well, if your a registered voter, I would imagine that you will get lots of flyers. A list of registered voters in Edgewater can be gotten through the County Clerk, for a price of course. That's the way it is with government, it's all about our money. There is always something to complain about.

I'm registered, but I haven't voted here yet.

Are you registered to vote in Edgewater? Every time you move you have to re-register. If not, you should get down to the Clerks office ASAP so you can vote in the upcoming municipal election.
Welcome aboard fellow Citizen. Have you thought about serving on one of our Boards or Commissions?

It's pretty sad that only 700-800 vote! That really says something about the rest who live here.

Actually that is not a bad number considering a large portion of our population consist of minors not old enough to vote and a rather sizable population of transient people.

You have to get elected to server the community. Trying to get elected a smart way does not mean you won't later help everyone in the community. It just means your smart enough not to waste your time on things that won't produce results.
Would you not like results? or do you want everyone to have nice feelings who did not register to vote after people have died to give them the right.
Also, 5400 is not the amount of people possible to vote, it's a count of people in the town. Should they all spend their time talking to 10 year olds?
Just because they are talking to registered voters does not mean that they are manipulating the election. It means they have basic time management skills.
Do you want someone who has time management skills or people who will talk and talk and talk and talk.

Well, there are about 6 weeks left until the election.
So far all the candidates have shown up for council meetings except for John McCloskey. The last time he was there was when he was trying to get on the CRCC. Council did not appoint him.
Why does he want to be on council if he isn't interested in what is happening on council now?
If he hasn't got the time to catch up on council now, what makes you think he will have the time to give any thought to what goes on if he does get on council?
If you go by his comments at his bid for the CRCC I have to say that he didn't give any thought to what was happening when he was on council last time.
IF you do vote - know who you are voting for.

It doesn't mean they will either. How many times have people over promised during elections?
As for ALL candidates showing up for council, except John M. NOT TRUE! To this day I don’t even know what George looks like. Does showing up mean showing up for the whole meeting, or just making face before adjournment? With the exception of those who are currently seated, Sarah Clark is the only one who has been there from start to finish on a regular basis.

Not as an endorsement, I'm not endorsing anyone this election, but as a clarification. Rumor has it that George Cooper is not for the City Charter because Council can't change it without a vote of the people.
Nothing could be further from the truth. I had a lengthy discussion with George. George is full well aware of the Charter and it's importance. To me, he appears to be thoughtful, knowledgeable and worthy of consideration for my vote.

the election, that is...but maybe that's OK...

Yeah, not much controversy, rumor or scandal. Maybe we don't actualy need elected officials. Our curent Council seems to have been scolded by the CM and Mayor and made to go to the corner for a time out. They are on a tight leash with the timed agenda and all. Wouldn't want them debating the issues to long.

Do any of the candidates have different ideas on any subject? A specific subject? Will there be a debate. I know they all love the small town, but why would I vote for 1 over the other. I got 3 flyers. Right now, they are leading, but by reading the flyers I did not see any difference between them besides what I know, which is not that much. Anyone to enlighten me?

Missed Opportunitiesreading through these topics, a number of times the candidates have been asked to tell us their views and no one responds
apparently their VIEW is "I wanna get elected" it doesn't have much to do with us or where they want to take Edgewater...
anyone know if and when there will be a debate? so far, everyone is cowering in the deer blind

Power to the people! As someone who loves this community and will fight for some real change - which means getting citizens involved - I'm sharing this response to a citizen inquiry to this thread. If you elect me, I'll be coming at you to serve on a board or commission.
>>>
I moved to Edgewater about six years ago, and in the time I’ve lived here, served on Edgewater’s Parks and Rec. board for four years (two as Chair), Tree Commission, Charter Commission, and now Charter Review Commission. I stepped down from the Parks board last year, after it became clear that the Parks and Rec. director (and Council at that time) had no interest in receiving citizen input, and for the fourth straight year Edgewater wasn’t going to have any kind of Summer youth program. I’m running for Council because I want both of these things to change.
I want to see a City government that cares about its young people, encourages new families to move (and stay!) here, and operates with an eye towards a stable future – which is going to mean building strong citizen boards, finding ways to help our schools improve, developing great recreational programs, and dealing with the City's infrastructure issues. Council can help by re-establishing the boards that were limboed when the new Charter passed, empowering those bodies, and sponsoring partnerships between our schools and the community at large.
In very broad strokes, those are some of my top priorities and the approach I will bring to Council. Please feel free to contact me anytime with your questions or concerns - on these or any other topic - and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same. My cell is 720-841-8196, and I can be reached by email at devonbarclay@hotmail.com.
