The weekly tongue lashingI am an adult. I can make my own decisions and take responsibility for the consequences. I try to participate in my community and my country as I believe a citizen should. I try to cast an informed vote for civic-minded people who will follow the rules and represent the best interests of my community. I always have the greatest hope that they will honor the trust we place in them and will do the work they ask us to allow them to do.
I sometimes attend their City Council meetings. More often than not, I am treated, at the end of the evening, to a scolding by Council. They call it "Council Comments" but it should be called "Council Scolding" They sit on their elevated stage, peering down upon us lowly citizens and criticise us, in a very shame-based, parental tone and the thing that always amazes me is they actually think they are entitled, by virtue of their office, to address us in this manner. They genuinely feel it is appropriate behavior. It's shocking to me and even more shocking that the citizens in attendance sit there and take it week after week after week. It's a very interesting ritual.

That part is easy. Words coming from people you have no respect for don’t seem to have much of an impact.

So it wasn't just me that noticed that. I stopped going to Council because of it. I had thought about getting on the Parks Board but, I didn't want to be treated like that.

Dave Cooke made an accusation under Council Comments last week that someone had called Bill Bossert a liar. I am not aware that anyone anywhere called Bill Bossert a liar. In my mind Bill is probably the best Council person we have right now. Another thing that bothered me was that Cooke and Gardner were upset that no one talked to Andy about his decision. Then they go on to say that it was obvious that Andy had not made a choice and how the public wasn't fair to him. Wasn't it Council that put him on "trial" at the January 22nd meeting by voting as to whether or not a vacancy existed BEFORE Andy announced he had not yet made a decision?
Why was Adam and Dave so angry? What's going on?

In my mind too. Bill is as level headed and open minded as they come. A politicial you can trust, right here in Edgewater.
