Teresa Sanchez for City Council

Local property manager Teresa Sanchez is set to run for City Council in november.  Ms. Sanchez is dedicated to strong Public Safety and has recently arranged for Your Hub to do a story on the Police Department.  Article coming soon - stay tuned for more.

Police State?  Hmmmmmmmm.

Teresa,

All we ask is that if you are elected you serve the will of the people who made it happen.  We need many things to improve mostly in management of the City.  Do us proud and prosper or be like the status quo and fail.

Don't forget where you came from.

Which will of which people? Do you really think that all the citizens of Edgewater want the exact same thing?
Horses Mouth

When can we expect to here FROM Theresa, instead of ABOUT Theresa?
Waiting

It's a bit soon to be running for Council.  Let's see if we hear from Theresa come August, after she has made a few public appearances before the Council supporting Chief Keogh and the PD spend fest.
Amy

First you learn about the town - then you attend most council meetings so you can see how ineffective our government is ran - then you run and get elected - then you try to make change - then you come to the realization that this is one screwed up place.

Too many good people are doing too many good things for me to afford the luxury of being pessimistic.

I thought the article Teresa Sanchez was behind was going to be something postive for the department and the city. Has anyone read the HUB article by Teresa Sanchez that was in today's, the April 16 edition? Thanks for the positive light you shine on our city and police department. NOT.

Hardly the kind of story that helps the city's cause.   We are going through difficult times, but are also working diligently to find ways to improve the city.  I'm not at all happy with this article. How can we pull together and have pride when no one is willing, publically, to do more than put negative information out. Don't forget, all the negative press everyone keeps putting out sheds a dark shadow on us. We are in hard times, have been for a while, but damned if I think it will last. Quit putting our city down. Do something constructive, that is what will turn our economy around.

I'm disappointed to say the least.  Yes, I know many will post here that all of the article is true. In part, yes. We desperatly need a new police department building. It is being worked on. Unfortunately, this takes time and money. But the critical issue that we as a city are progressing as fast as we can, is missing.  We have so much going on with new businesses coming here, new homeowners moving in,and importantly we are about to hire a city manager who will be instrumental in moving our city ahead. None of this is mentioned.

Good things are happening. Don't listen to the doomsday naysayers who seem to forget, in a very dificult economy, Edgewater is moving, maybe a little slowly, but moving forward. A great accomplishment.

We have a police force that is under duress, no doubt about that. Thank you to all of our fine officers, detectives and chief. We are fortunate to have these fine men and women protecting us. They help make the city the best it can be and set the stage for better years to come.

HUB article

I was hoping to learn something about Ms Sanchez although I'm glad she likes the police department (we all do) and I'm very glad her father was found. The article was police officers being interviewed about our on-going, small town problem of affording a police department. She doesn't think we are aware of this problem? Was that the point?
I also read that Mountain View is about to go under, which is very sad news and I wish them well. These are hard times and things could be worse...This article doesn't bring us closer to a solution. Ms Sanchez should listen and learn a little more before she decides to run for City Council. Pointing out the problems is easy. Finding the answers, well, that's a little tougher but welcome to the conversation Teresa.

I applaude Ms. Sanchez for her community spirit.  I think anyone in her position as a potential candidate would be shocked at what she has learned about the City and would want to fix the problems.  Yes sometimes the truth hurts,  but after all it is the truth.  Many have talked a good game but no one has actually really tried to fix the problem with the Police building for at least 20 years.  Talk is cheap and so far Ms. Sanchez has only talked but she has not been elected yet, GIVE HER TIME.
better do some research

I think if you or Ms. Sanchez attended  city council meetings (think you don't or if you do,  you don't do so often), read meeting notes, agendas, listened to the audio tapes, etc. you would be better informed.  The city and its reps have been working for some time on the problem. In this economy, and with the needs of the department, it takes time. Even in the best economy it takes lots of  time.

There have been several presentations over the last year or so about this. If you were informed and  read meeting notes, made calls, etc. you would know this. If someone talks of representing us, they should do some homework first.  You can't jump in and fix things if you don't do some background work first. Its only empty talk. Sounds like she is making assumptions and listening to people who like herself stand back and judge without real participation. You need to know what you're talking about.

We need reps here who do their research before making blanket statements.  You seem to have no clue how much is being accomplished on a weekly basis here.   If this is the way she is going to function, she won't be even slightly effective. Better put more thought and work into the process. Insulting our city in a newspaper article with incorrect information is destructive, not to mention demeaning.
Jay

I do attend meetings and am well aware of what is going on in this City.  Yes the City has done some good things but there are also things they have talked about, ranted about, met in executive seciion about, made public comment about for years and still nothing has been acomplished in some very important areas like the Police and Fire Departments.  Talk is cheap sometimes fixing a problem is not.  Hopefully we will get quaility Council members the next election and a quaility City Manager.  I guess I have been here to long but my guess is we will hire the City manager that works the cheapest instead of someone with the most experience.  Keep in mind there is a big difference between a candidate who manages a town with a coulple hundred people and works out of a trailer VS someone who has mass experience managing a City of thousands and spending a millions of new investment money on large revenue producing projects.  You or we will get what we pay for.

I agree with the poster who said you need to do more research. IF you actually have been attending meetings then you aren't listening very well or just do not get what is happening.
If Ms. Sanchez - and I really hate to go after her as it appears that she has not once spoken for herself or even confirmed that she will run - is truly concerned about the city, then she needs to find out what is happening with the current council. It would be a shame to have her run on the misconceptions that she appears to be under.

Jay,
You do a disservice to this town. A lot of money was spent on a professional search firm and they have done a fine job. 35 people applied and the final five is an impressive list. Research them and then meet them at the reception on April 30th. It's not like the city put an ad in the Neighborhood Gazette or Your Hub looking for a manager.
Geez- get over whatever chip you have on your shoulder and find out what is really happening in this city. You might be surprised to find that it isn't the awful place you read about in the majors like Your Hub and the Gazette.

Perhaps we should all do our own research.  I have and was surprised to learn that one of the candidates actually does work out of a modular home.  I won't do a disservice to that person by naming them and I'm certain that it's not thier fault or the town they work for as we are all victims of a bad economy.  Likewise I won't name my personal favorite choice because my vote does not count.  I looked for someone who made a really nice development where once there was none and transformed a diamond in the rough.  My guess is we won't get him for the same money we got a City Treasurer and so I won't be disappointed when we get someone at a bargin price.  Hopefully it will all work out for the best.  I'm grabbing the popcorn and a beer to see how this plays out.

What is this talk about a bargain? Do you have any clue what kind of money is set aside for a manager? Doesn't look like any one of them is going to be a bargain, even if they get the low end of the starting pay.  What kind of money do you think a good manager should be getting? This is not going to be a bargain.
And it looks like the hiring choice is going above and beyond what is required of the charter.
There is a lot of good going on in this town. I think 'chippie' is just blowing smoke.

How I vote

“....Local property manager Teresa Sanchez is set to run for City Council...”  Great!   That’s just what we need.  One more real estate jockey that thinks we are going to be the next Highlands.  Don’t you all get it?  We are not a real estate investment.  We are not a development opportunity.  We are not some case study in economic potential.  We are 5000 people who call this place home.  Oops, I stand corrected...  Only some of us call this place ‘home’.   Others see Edgewater as some God forsaken piece of @#$^% that needs to be fixed.  I’m looking for civic leaders that call Edgewater home.

Looks like everyone has an opinion and if it's one you don't like you slam the poster.  I think everyone has good points but more importantly I agree with thier right to say whatever they want.  Why not try controlling your own space before you slam others for a differing opinion.

Not opening that website

Don't just post a website with no explanation of what it is. Forget about it. I'm not going to open it. How rude! It could be ANYTHING.
I can't believe this. Use your head.

I wish more people felt the way you do, Kendall St. There is a difference between debating an issue and insulting a poster. This would be a more useful forum if people would try to debate the merits of an argument rather than making it personal. It is pretty hard to do sometimes. I'm guilty of it from time to time but it is something to strive for. Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully your attitude about this will catch on.

I did not post my website URL Drum-Runners.com on this forum, another individual has done so. Since I am the owner, I thought it to be a good idea and to quell any suspicions about my website, I would like to give a brief description: Drum-Runners.com is completely devoted to disaster preparedness planning. It is 100% family friendly for individuals or business readiness preparedness. There are PDF downloadable documents for emergency food, water, first aid, flu treatment and other topics an individual may find useful in the event of an emergency. This is all my website contains. I do not require anyone to register, set up any passwords, I do not "harvest" email addresses and I have no time to bother anyone. My site is completely free of charge to any person or organization who needs the tools to survive a disaster, be it man-made or natural.

I have also posted my email address on the website in case anyone has a complaint or comment, my goal was to provide a public service, that is all. You may, or may not, find the topics of interest, but I guarantee that NO ONE will find it offensive.

Thanks Drumrunner

Kinda Makes you feel bad for being so crazy about it in the first place.

That’s the problem with communication.  When done poorly intentions are lost.

No one should feel bad for doing their best with what they are given.
