Questions for DevonDevon - based on this statement, "I'm running for Council because I want to see youth programming funded for our kids"
Devon,
What programs will you be doing? How will you get this done? Most important, where are you getting the money from?
I've seen the budget, it's tight. What programs do you want and how will you pay for them.
Voter - I'm not against this, I just don't know how you will pay for it and what programs you want to start.
Why would I just not go to Lakewood or Wheat Ridge Rec for these programs.

not Devon here
|
Edgewater just hired a new park and recreation director who is at this moment working on the programs. He is also working on a survey that will go to every home. This is being done by a company contracted by the city of Edgewater as part of the develpment of a Park and Recreation Master Plan. This will collect citizen input for what is wanted and needed here, as well as how to proceed with a plan of action.
Dan Maples is our new P&R director and is very energetic and experienced! About time, huh?

Not Devon either

A lot better than the Light Switch Lady. Devon tried to get the Light Switch Lady to do what Dan is doing. She was to busy planting trees within a foot or two of City Hall and painting the Gazebo that God awful color.

Will you please just let Lydia lie? We now have a competent director. Lydia is gone. Can we please just get on with it?

Just don't want anyone blaming Devon for Lydias mistakes. Or was it really Bonnies mistakes? Oh well. A new day, a new way.

Oh please....enough all ready. The ‘light switch lady’ was always Devon’s bone to pick. He’s reputation was fine till you stepped in with this crap. The future folks not the past can we move on.

re-state question

I think it's a good questionThank you for feed back but it does not answer my questions. I like movies in the parks and I like the bands in the park.

No offense, but these sort of seem like "gotcha" questions to me, The Observer, here.
If any candidate indicates an interest in youth programs, i.e."I want to see youth programming funded for our kids" that doesn't mean the candidate will be, personally "doing" the programs. Obviously, the Parks and Rec. Director will do that.
The candidate is saying to me they would be supportive of youth programming in their role as a Councilperson and if elected, they would be supportive of the Parks and Recreation Director's work to research funding sources, identify programming that is appropriate for the community (such as the Parks and Recreation Survey being conducted now) and once the proposals get to the level of Council where the P&R Director is asking Council to fund the programs, I hear this Candidate saying he will encourage Council cooperation in funding such programs and will support them by voting for them.
A Council person's job is not to find funding, write programming or determine how to pay for programming even.
His or her job is to listen to the proposals presented to them by the professional City Staff and weight them against other City needs or desires and vote for what they think the City will benefit most from.
The budget, such as it is, has nothing to do with this.
Recreation programs for kids can be funded through grants and almost always are because county, state and federal sources recognise youth programs would be low on the priority list for a small city so they provide grants specifically for that purpose so kids recreation doesn't have to compete with say, infrastructure improvements. Why? Because if they didn't kids would never get anything!
It will be the P&R Director's job to identify those funding sources, not Council.
So, I'm just asking. Would you care to "re-state" your question again so that it makes sense this time?

Written just like a small time reporter by a small time reporter.

Oh, here comes the mud...Anyone got a kleenex?
I (Observer) have never taken one journalism class. The topic bores me. I have never been published, not even "small time" and never cared to be, so you must have me confused with someone else.
My question: "Would you like to re-state your question so it makes sense?", remains. Are you trying to dodge the question or don't you know how to make sense?

Okay, I’ve never heard a candidate come out and say they won’t support youth programs. They all have said, at one time or another, they want to see more youth programs. So, Devon, what makes you different from the other candidates on this issue?
|
Common Sense
|
Well done Observer. The only thing I would change is the P&R Boards part in the equasion.
re-state question, you are probably one of those that complain about Councils micro managing. What yopu are asking for is the very definition of micro managing. I don't think Devon is much into micro managing. Yes he was a journalist, one with a masters degree in political science. What's your political claim to fame?

Common Sense again

He will actually support youth programing and encourage funding be set aside for it. He might even try to implement the Tree Plan as well by proposing and voting for the legislation the Tree Plan proposed.

FunnyI haven't heard any of the candidates except Devon say they were in favor of youth programs. Not here, at least. Of course, Devon is the only one posting and maybe we have lost him too.
Fact is, Devon can run on his record due to his 3 years of involvement with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Laura can run on her record of voting for Parks and Recreation activities in general and making that clear during City Council meetings, in addition to her work with the Edgewater Arts Project. Adam can run on his record for negotiating the Ice Ranch with recreational facilities for the community, which is highly youth and family oriented.
Sarah? Who knows? She didn't even bother to put her answers in the HUB. Neither did Joan or George. John? Nope, not from what I read. Does anyone know what George thinks about youth programing?
I have no idea where they stand on the issue. I didn't see it in their material. I haven't seen them trying to communicate with the community here so I don't see every candidate saying or demonstrating their interest in youth programs.

As far as I can tell George is ALL youth. He has a son in Edgewater Elementary, and is on site and very active in our schools. When I asked him why he was running he said it was for the kids.

4 provenI'll second that last post on George. He seems very passionate about an Edgewater devoted to the kids.
Laura has also been very active in trying to bring youth programs as well as arts programs (one of the Edgewater Arts Project founders).
Adam, as stated, is very into bringing a decent recreation program to EW. The Ice Ranch is not just hockey.
So, it looks like we have 4 proven factors. You will have to take Sarah on her word as I haven't seen any actual participation in any city issues yet.
Joan - well she fills a space, is involved in senior activities, and her vote on council goes with whatever the mayor wants. (Guess that takes care of the mayor not having a vote on council)
McCloskey - nothing good to say about him, so, like mama said...'If you can't say anything nice..."

I predict!
Martin and McCloskey lose. Cooper gets two years. Bonnie wins, of course, but not by a mandate, as many don't vote for Mayor.
As it has been seen, so shall it be.
