outside the box totally thinking out of the box, and some may say out of my mind. but just a few things that I think could be cool. If I had a magic wand.
* move all the kids from Lumberg to Edgewater. Build a Newer Bigger, Better Lumberg Elem. Then move all the kids to Lumberg.
* the City buys the old Edgewater Elem. building and turns it into the Police, Fire, Court, City Offices, and Historical Center.
* We then have the whole park to really have fun and make it a place the families will want to come and enjoy, we will have a destination Ice Arena why not have a park to match. We could have a small amphitheater in the south east corner of the park. and one heck of a playground with splash park.
*sell off all the other city owned property*that would include the White Elephant and buy the Filipino Hall and revamp Public works.
* partner up with the high school and build a swimming pool that would be open to Edgewater citizens .
*build a pedestrian bridge over Sheridan.
* run an Old cable car from the lite rail to the Marketplace, Ice Arena and 25th avenue.
Then I would win the power ball and buy the old Rose Acres property and have it rezoned agriculture . I would tear down the big hall and recycle the bricks to build a very decorative fence around the property, I would leave the chapel and rent it out for parties, art shows, plays and the like. I would have a few horses, and maybe a lama to keep the grass cut. I would restore the gardens . Have spring tea partied and summer dance.
Now remember these are just my thoughts and everyone is always talking about thinking outside the box.
What thoughts do you have?

Wait until the delinquents burn down Edgewater Elementary and buy it at a discount.
Build a Homeless Shelter in it's place to house less fortunate bums of society.
Build a wishing well next to the splash park so I can dream I'm really in 90210.
Walk the line between sanity and insanity.

'Tis goodWell Caryn, all in all I think it is brilliant. One on the most comprehensive and long term vision statements I’ve heard around hear. I love the city services/Park/Ice Arena complex idea. It has a wonderful continuity to it. And redeveloping public works using the property to the south has always sounded good.
Thanks for dumping your box - hope you flattened it and put it in the recycling bins.

Why Not
|
Why not use a small portion of the $400,000 we got from the ERA to promote a Edgewater Urban music festival.
Nobody other than a few in this City give a dam about Edgewaters heritage so calling it the heritage festival is bound to fail like it always has.
Beer is legal in the park anyway so why confine those who drink to a small cage like area? Let's open it up and allow people to enjoy good food, music and a beer.
Make it a two day event with good bands to showcase our new Splash park and Ice rink.
Just a thought.

So far we got nothing from ERA. They just might spend it all on cross-walks. They reviewed a proposal last Tuesday for over $270.000 dollars.
Nelson said you all would just squander this money if ERA turned it over to the city. Small portion, by small portion I can see the fire truck and the police station fading into the sunset....
Don’t get me wrong, I like the event idea I just disagree with the funding plan.

I think we should save that money to pay rent on the Bar owned Police Station for another 15 years.

Nelson is only interested in making his property look good. That's why he votes to spend a fortune on the piece of crap across the street from him. That's why he is pushing to spend money on painting sidewalks on 'his' street'. Does he have any thoughts on how he plans to pay for a firetruck to help put out the fire when that firetrap catches?
If council wants to save that ERA money , insist they put those funds into some kind of hold for the fire or police needs. That way, it will go to where it is really needed and not just to pretty up Nelsons street and Nelsons property values .

I say burn it all down, then get a hold of some Native American tribe to build a 90 story Hotel/Casino complex. That would take care of us EW Seniors and that's all that matters in this town anyway, hell yes. The pit bosses could be the cops and the blackjack dealers could be the fire department. Good food, good housing and great entertainment, it's a win, win.
Now I'm not forgetting the "Green" issues here, hell no. In the sub, sub, sub basement level of the complex we have a nuke waste desposal site. Now that should get us a damn Tree City USA designation and bring in a lot of extra Federal funding. Not to mention the commercial Space Shuttle landing pad on the roof of the joint, that's global funding. Edgewater, a global villiage. Now that's some damn fine brain storming.

Caryn,
I think you have some wonderful ideas. Maybe you should bring them up at a council meeting or e-mail your council people.
There are some issues with financing, but aren't there always?
I think that the biggest hurdle here is that the schools belong to JeffCo school district, not the city of Edgewater...although that doesn't mean that it can't be brought up to the school board.

Thankee!
I just like to think outside the box.
As far as the schools , I think that Farmer Scott can tell us all more about the up coming election and the schools. He has gone to a few meetings and has more information about the bond election.
*addition to city works , add a greenhouse so that we could grow our own flowers (have a gardening club)and have more flower boxes all over town, Then we could look pretty and smell good too.
No I am not finished with my box yet, but when I am ,will definitely put it in the recycle. Unless some else wants to use it.

cloud trippin'WOW? WOW. or WOW!
I guy leaves town for a long weekend and comes back to this? Maybe next time, I'll leave for a few weeks to come back to gold plated sidewalks and palm trees.
Whatever, pop goes the weasle. Keep thinking and dreamin', I think they're are some good ideas here. Master plan stuff. Dollars, Dollars and common sence. I think Edgewater is about 2 years away from making ideas and thoughts like these become reality. It is my considered opinion that there are three issues in this city that should take top priority: Police, Fire and Schools. None of which got in the state they are in over night and will not be fixed over night. I'm hoping that many more people will speak up and share some thoughts and ideas and what is important to them.
Good job, Caryn...ROCK ON!!!

**hopping back out of the box....waving my magic wand and wishing I had won the lotto.
All this recycle talk has me thinking...
tag to my first post ,
open up the street at the south end of the city shops, and put in a Drive-through-recycle .
**Put in new buildings on 25th and Gray, that have shops and maybe some roof top dinning.
** all that talk about Ice Cream has me wishing we had one like Bonnie Brae, or Lickity Split. Yummmy
** the owners of the Masonic Building open up a Holistic Center. ommmmmmmm
**The new Target looks so nice that the north part of the strip Mall go through a big over hall.
they bring in some new shops and restaurants that take advantage of the FABILOUIS VIEW.
**another Pedestrian Bridge over 20th between the Ice Ranch and Target.
Oh yes and a Wonderful Destination playground that everyone can enjoy.
Whewwwwwwwwwww!! all this wand waving has me bushed ..
back in the box ....

What about new FD & PD Facilities at the NE corner of 25th & Gray?

I always liked that idea. brand new buildings on land we already own.

25th and GrayI've always thought that as well. It is centrally located and with the property belonging to our city, makes very good sense to combine the two forces there. Maybe once the library is moved, this will be one consideration.
So what is going on with the old Masonic building? That would make a great small apartment complex with boutique type shops and a rooftop restaurant as Caryn said. Has anyone heard anything? It certainly has been empty a long time.
What about the Boys & Girls Club of America thinking of building at 26th and Lamar? Any more rumors there?
Another idea.......The city could sell our property on 25th, the current city offices on 24th and Sheridan and buy the 26th and Lamar property. We could then build a city complex which would include the fire department and police station with the city offices.
Hope something happens pretty quickly as we need to get our services housed in a safe place. I believe, when a city manager is in place, part of his/her duties will be obtaining grants and subsidies which will also help defray many of the costs we are facing.
We may not have a lot of usable property here, but we do have a few choice pieces that can be smartly utilized. With property values holding pretty well here, this would be a good time to make a move--before land values increase in the next few years with the coming Ice Ranch. Laura Keegan

she's back **jumping back out****
tagging on to Council Presidents idea.
You knew I couldnt miss the opportunity to jump on a good idea.
* make the plumbing building a brothel
( or a bed and breakfast) Shhhhhhh we wont tell the cops what is really going on .
* have the schools start to recycle for money making projects instead of selling all the "Junk" wrapping paper.trinkets , candy and butter braids. that would sure keep a lot out of our landfills.
clean up the environment and keep out waist lines in check .
**back in the box**
come on people I know I am not the only one out there with "crazy " ideas.
get out of your box and lets hear them !!!!!!!!!!or if you want I can loan you mine

Back to basics.Howdy ,
Lovin' the stuff there crazy cat chick . However, some of us citizens might just go in for really good businesses that provide sumpthin' called customer service?

The FARMERS definition for; P and R: PR at any given point in his life has always meant only one thing............Public Relations. I can't wait to meet P and R...I hear there is one in Edgewater.
OOOOO Ouch. The Farmer is just a )!@$*%)@. Those that know;KNOW.

Negotiations are underway for a upscale Mexican resturant and nightclub in the Market place lot at the old Table Steaks location. I hope it all works out we need the nightly draw which fuels the other late night businesses.
I think it's possibly associated with D' Corazon at 1548 Blake St in lodo or a similar establishment .

New restaurant at old Table SteaksI believe it will just be the beginning. I imagine businesses will be moving in right and left with the Ice Ranch coming. Very exciting news; I certainly hope it happens. I cannot thank council and all involved enough for this golden opportunity for our city. In the near future, we all can say, "If it's too good to be true, well then, you must be in Edgewater." We should have very good tax revenues flowing soon with all the stores opening in the lower city. This will bring so much quality and pride to our town. Laura Keegan

New Edgewater SignsI'm past bemused at this thread. So many good ideas. So much potential. But, beyond it, some REALLY good branding! Can we please get the phrase "If it's too good to be true, well then, you must be in Edgewater!" put on metal and hung under all our city signs???
