Congratulations Councilwoman KeeganCongratulations to Councilwoman Laura who demonstrated last night with her thoughtfully prepared remarks before Council that we can look forward to open-minded representation guided by common sense and an abiding concern for the community as a whole.
She will be a good listener and an independent thinker. By example, I hope she will diminish the "us and them" mentality that seems to plague our City Councils and so often separates them from their constituency.
It is a challenge to fore-go the comfort of following and to choose instead to remain your own person and actively in touch with the community, when you ascend to the dais.
I would encourage her to reach out to the residents of Edgewater instead of waiting for them to come to her. If she does she may avoid the all to common dynamic of council members talking only among themselves and in the end representing only themselves.
I wish her well and I hope the community supports her, and her efforts on their behalf.

Congrats Laura and best of wishes, you are now in my speed dial .
Talking Stick reader:
Yes I did support Hale for this appointment but that does not mean that I cannot get behind Laura who will make a fine addition to Council. In fact I have already called my new Councilperson and congratulated her personally. No crow to eat here.

Here I go. Thank you for your kind words of support. I will do everything I can to represent this city and to move it forward. Even though I was chosen by council, I am the citizens' voice. I want everyone to feel free to contact me.
My city email is not yet set up (should be early next week) but you can email me at lksells@aol.com in the meantime.

Fellow citizen or Council member keeping us in our place? Just curious...
Congratulations, Laura, you have graduated from the common people to Olympus. I hear the air is rare up there!
-and congratulations to Council for the least gruesome, most humane appointment I believe I have ever seen. Next time, figure out how you are going to do the voting the meeting before, OK? It was a little embarrassing listening to you figure out your methodology in front of the candidates. Just constructive feedback. Thanks.

Everyone knows the best nuts sit above and in front of the rest. Congratulations Laura you are now a Macadamia. Hmmmmm does that make Dave an Off the Walnut, Bosert has to be a Cashew, Joan is a Pinion (she needs a lot of work), Jamies a Hazelnut, Adam........Salted Pecan and Kent is a Pistachio (he needs a little work too). Oh and we forgot Bonnie, she's a coconut.
Me? I'm just a lowly peanut but I can do so many things.

Hazelnut?
Like I said, Laura, you are going to miss being in the peanut gallery. And they are going to miss you. But I have every faith that you will represent them one and all - no matter that each of them may want different things.....right?
At least we are a bunch of mixed nuts. And macadamias are really great!
Welcome. I really do think you will do a great job!

Sometimes you feel like a nut............Jamie
I did a little research on Hazelnuts on the internet and I'm sure Just Nuts had this in mind:
| Quote: | It turns out there is a hazelnut oil out there blowing the minds of some very special chefs.
Pariani Hazelnut Oil tastes just as it should - like a mouthful of an Autumn afternoon. Like toasted sunlight. It is a full, round-favored, and both floral and herbaceous. The flavor is front and center, never giving up its spotlight to other foods. |
The source of this info can be found at:

You could be an Almond but not a Chestnut. Nah, I like Hazelnut.

Gee Harlander , you are such a flatterer.
I would have said I wanted to be a cacau nut, but what woman wouldn't love to be described like the hazelnut.

Sorry Laura. I hijacked your kudos - but really, that description!

don't be cruelI only ask, if I am a macadamia, and you find you're upset with me-- Don't try this !!! Try a quick phone call. Please :)
How To Crack Your Macs
Place macadamia nut on cement or a flat rock, preferably with a groove to hold the nut. Strike firmly with a hammer or another rock.
If smashing your thumb or finger is a concern, try wrapping the mac nut in an old sock or newspaper before applying the hammer or rock.

And they say Council people don't have a sense of humor. Lots of luck Laura. Now where did I put that old sock and hammer?

You got to pay to playUnless or until you, citizen can explain to your adult community how you intend to PAY for all the extra police and fire protection we will need to continue to hold this event, I, your neighbor, doesn't want to hear about this any more! Sentiment is one thing but this is a failure to grasp reality. Sorry.

IF I MAY BORROW FROM THE LATE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. "I HAVE A DREAM". I DREAM OF LIVING IN A PATRIOTIC CITY THAT LOVES IT'S FIREWORKS AND THE CELEBRATION OF LIBERTY. WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO SHOW UP AT COUNCIL AND DEMAND TO BE HEARD. THE GREAT JOHN ADAMS SAID " IT SHOULD BE SOLEMMIZED WITH POMP AND PARADE, WITH SHOWS, GAMES, SPORTS, GUNS, BELLS, BONFIRES, AND ILLUMINATIONS FROM ONE END OF THIS CONTINENT TO THE OTHER, FROM THIS TIME FOREVER MORE.
VOICE YOUR OPINION BECAUSE TO BE SILENT IS AN INJUSTICE TO THE MASSES.

Drove off the road ........AGAINQuincy and extra: I don't disagree with any of your post. I have read those words more than once and how cool they are. However, I think you should put up the money, NOT me, NOT the CITY.
I will give you a sparkler to go away,
The Farmer
PS. Please, never question anyone in this town about their patriotism.

congrats lauraBest wishes to you Laura. Please know I have absolutely no regrets to see you sitting in the chair. Go forward and always do what you think best represents the people of this city. I trust you with this charge as I have appreciated your silent yet active dedication to the charter and support as we brought it to be a reality, with your quiet support. Now is your time to shine, use your voice aloud, and bring your dedication and belief in what we "all" did together to fruition. It will be a very interesting time for us all. The transition.
2nd piece of advice is have it (the charter) handy at every meeting. The council and admin have been less than cooperative with each other than we would all expect, at times, as we all have seen, but it CAN turn around. Please help make this happen. You can be a ray of sunshine.
Find the facts, speak to your constituents and go forward doing the right thing/s. Don't cast a vote if you are unsure. But take heed to get more info and more input until you feel secure in your decision~ without an eternal delay of progress. It is a delicate balance. Guard yourself from getting pulled into a direction that you may be unsure of or when you haven't checked out the opinions of the citizens who supported you. Balance this with the factual matters and opportunities. It is not always easy to sit in the chair and have a different point of view that can stand up to the pressures that exist there. It is not always easy to disagree with your friends and neighbors, especially when pressured to follow. Be a leader: the leader that you can be. Get the facts you need to do your job- as it is designed as a legislative representative- and cast your vote with these things as your ground.
I look forward to working together again, and I am always at your disposal as a resource. Good luck, make good chioces and godspeed sister! Be the Big Bird no one expected. Fly like the eagle- the symbol of leadership for our country, and our City of Choice.

Leanna, thank you. Your words are kind and insiteful. Knowing there are so many people who are willing to lend support is very reassuring. If we all work together, we can make a huge difference.

AHA! I knew! She's flawed, she's human. The town is ruined. NOT! LK run spell check then cut and paste. The Harlander does it all the time, everytime. You don't want to look like old Ed G Waters.
You go girl.
Farmer don't you have some wheat to beat or something? Leave this girl alone and stop picking on the Hale Cat. Group hug .
