City Manager Questions
|
If you were going to ask the candidates a question..what would it be?
|
Why Us?
|
Why do you want to be Edgewater's first city manager, and what experience do you bring that will help us with this transition?

What qualities do you look for in your Department Heads?
How do you feel about an "open door" policy when dealing with the public?
What challenges do you see in the future for providing quality services to the City , given our current budget?
In your review of our City, what do you see as the most important item needing attention?
In your experience, is Edgewater much different than other municipalities you have dealt with?
Do you see any inconsistencies or potential problems within our City Charter?
Would you rather have the Boards and Commissions under your authority or Councils and why?
Ideally, what relationship with Council do you envision?

City Manager Candidate question1.What is a municipality's responsibility to their young people, their seniors and their minorities and how is it similar to or how does it differ from county, state and federal responsibilities?
2. How would you begin to address these responsibilities?

I forgot the big question:
What challenges do you feel Edgewater faces in the short term and the long term.

QuestionEdgewater has a history of having surveys and studies conducted and not following through with the recommendations and planning urban projects without implementing them.
What role could you play in helping Edgewater utilize this research and actually complete these projects in the future?
Which roles, related to urban planning projects, would be outside of your job description?
In developing and building urban improvement projects what set of criteria would you use in assessing these projects, in order of priority?

We are not the 'stewards'. Our thoughts don't count.
Please get and stay in touch with your council member during the next few day.

The above poster is correct, of course. This thread is intended to get people thinking, but it won't help unless you communicate your ideas to your Council Members.

I wish I thought my Council cared what I think but I don't.

So what I'm hearing here is, once the election is over, elected officials no longer have a responsibility to consider the wishes of their constituents. Interesting. Certainly an effective way of separating the Government from the peoples desires. Kind of an us VS them mentality. We wouldn't want the villagers discussing things beyond their simple minded comprehension.

How will you develop a city when the authours of our charter thought of themselves and made it impossible to declare immenient domain for private property development? The way I see it a City manager can make cuts but thats about it. Why did we spend the money for a manager again?

Actually the framers of our Charter did not make it impossible to take land for private development. They only leveled the playing field and stopped the theft of real property by any slick tongued developer selling the local yokels on some pie in the sky quick pay scam.
Back to topic:
By the way, I liked Copp. Level headed and a strong background. Followed by Boswell, the only ICMA certified candidate. That means that she has signed on to a strict code of ethics and procedure. Good academia could offset experience. Willing to test uncharted waters but also willing to move on within a short tenure.

I thought Copp was the best by a mile. I just hope we get someone good. Has anyone thought about doing a background on the top selection? They might look good on paper but I would like to see someone dig under the surface to see what they are like to work with and find any skeletons in thier closet. Just doing some checking on my own I found out that one of them caused a major audit someplace they used to work at. I think it would be wise to check them out before hiring them.

You make it sound like "causing a major audit" is a bad thing. I think it's a very good thing. That's how you find the stuff that's been swept under the carpet.
By the way, the consultants in charge of this whole process are very professional and good at what they do. Do you guys really think that they haven't done background checks?
