At the city council meeting on June 26, the ice arena guys will be making a presentation of their proposed arena at 20th and Depew.
Russ Caldwell, the financial advisor for EW, will be making a statement about the financial aspects of the deal.

Lets hope nothing (like the Mayor) gets in the way. Edgewater needs this improvement. Finally we may be a destination rather than a starting point.

Why would the mayor get in the way? I thought she had been a part of this process from the beginning.

No troll here, I just remember the retirement home fiasco a few weeks back. If the Mayor goes for the Ice Ranch, great. If not, don't say you weren't warned.

If the Mayor has a card up her sleeve (that she isn't showing) just what do you expect us to do? We have no information and very little to say about it if we did. Thanks for the warning but I don't understand your expectation.

Sorry, if the mayor has a card up her sleeve it's time to cut off her sleeve, show the cards and explain them. Let's finally be honest here in Edgewater and have everyone be up front about their intentions. I'm tired of hearing rumors (here and elsewhere) about how the mayor is going to torpedo the ice arena in favor of JEFFCO offices that generate no tax benefit for the City and lead to our rapid demise as an independent City by bankrupting us.
Mayor, if you want EW to be part of another city and your aim is to get there by giving away our last source of tax income, at leat be honest with the citizens about your intentions. At least speak up for a change instead of sitting at Council without a word. WE elected you! WE deserve answers! YOU ARE accountable!
Respectfully,

Thanks JB, you hit the nail on the head. It's time for the Mayor to speak up and make her intentions known in clear and plain language. I don't expect her to get on the Stick and make a statement but she should address Council at a valid Council meeting.

When you mix this in with the possibility of the Boys and Girls Club of America's plan on 26th Ave. Win, Win. For the youth of our city. Thank you City Council!!!
We may even get a swimming pool.

The contract should be released to the public (get copy from city clerk) on Friday the 20th.
You can read it prior to the presentation and prepare any questions you may have.
Russ Caldwell will be there to explain the financials. It can be difficult to get your head around if you aren't into financing, and he will be a big help in explaining it.
this is good for the city

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After all the charettes, planners, studies, and last but not least, BS, there is finally a project that is worth bringing to our city.
I have heard some negative stuff going around the city about this. All I can say is, "There are always going to be complainers".
I think that anyone who truly cares about what Edgewater needs, in terms of financing our future, and bringing something truly great to our city, will agree that this is the best thing we have ever seen for that site.
I hope to see a lot of people at the presentation.
Just asking....

Where there's smoke there is fire.
Maybe the compaints are valid. This whole thing seems to have happened in the back room of chambers with the public beening left in the dark. Why should we believe this is good, and not just a good sales pitch?

The reason for silence is negotiations. It is one of only a few reasons elected officials may go into executive session. Lets see what they have negotiated before we pass judgement.
Remember not all that looks like smoke is smoke. Sometimes it's steam.

Thank you Harlander.
I believe that Councilman Cooke has been very open with whatever he has been able to.
Negotiations are not a public process. And it never should be.
The ice arena is a commercial business. They have a right to their privacy with regards to financial information - for a lot of reasons.
But never fear - all will be released by tomorrow. If you do decide to read the contract before the presentation, please be sure you understand all of it. If you take little pieces of it and tear it to shreds without understanding the whole of the contract, you may be doing a disservice to yourself and anyone else who mis-interprets what it says. The presentation on the 26th will be a good thing to attend, as both the developer and Russ Caldwell, who worked on the financials, will be available to answer your questions.
