We are more than just sound bites, I hope!

I don't know who you are hanging out with but I am very certain you are wrong. The old man and the weird lady with the strange accent and no knowledge of how the world works is not comforting to me. In the debate, Barack was polite while McCain assumed the posture of a condescending pit bull. We already know how well that posture has played in the international community. Wake up people, this isn't football, this is what will be written about our country in the history books. Content matters. Diplomacy matters. Intelligence matters. Duh.
Voter

So does experience and common sense and the ability to understand the question asked and the ability to provide a relevant answer.  Diplomacy matters when you are dealing with a like diplomatic mind and intellegence matters only when it is anchored in reality.  Spending more, more, more is neither diplomatic nor intelligent, no matter how many and bleeding heart promises you use to justify it.  Intellectual oratory has never won a war, cured a desease, put food on a table or placed a man on the Moon without being backed up by action.
We have two candidates.  One a man of words and promises and one a man of action and resolve.  I know how I'm voting and why.

Obama has already said with the new developments in the economy he will have to change his spending plans.  in other words, his plan  don't work. He has no clue only pie in the sky.  In a perfect world his words sound good.  Interject a little reality and every thing falls apart.  I like the guy enough, but last night I got real tired of the back pedeling and the Bush bashing.  Duh, whe all know Bush is an idiot, but Obama isn’t running against the decisions of the past.  He is asking to control of the decisions of the future.  Give him time and he will be great.  Right now he just isn’t ready for the real world.

Unfortunately, Guest, you seem to echo the Dividifier In Chief in the idea that adjusting to new information, and coping with that new information by revising plans to fit the new information, is somehow 'weak and liberal thinking", rather than an intelligent approach to conditions on the ground.

Butting the national head against the wall, attempting to make the world fit to our own world view is at best an adolescent approach to life, one that we have had seven-plus woeful years to observe.

Yes, duh, we all know bush is an idiot. What you appear to refuse to admit is that McCain has voted lockstep with bush throughout that time. How much is John McCain different from bush? Let's look at that reasonably. John McCain has backpeddled from his opposition to the reactionary Christian sects such as Pat Robertson to now kowtow before those same Christian Ayatollahs in order to pander to that particular vote. Does that really sound like honor and integrity to you? John McCain has steadfastly voted against benefits for our troops and our veterans. Does that sound like honor and integrity to you? John McCain has voted to remove the regulatory oversight of the financial sector that has led to the current financial crisis, and the largest request for corporate welfare in the history of the world, and his confirmed lobbyist advisers seem to be the ones who led him into these decisions. Does that sound like honor and integrity to you?

I am a former Marine, and I respect McCain's resolve and honor during his time in a prison camp. Nothing can take that away from him. That doesn't account for his ethical lapses, including the Keating 5 scandal where he was - as now - deeply involved in dismantling regulatory oversight that led to the last great American banking scandal under Ronald Reagan.

McCain's respect was well earned in Viet Nam, but that respect must be maintained over time. McCain has acted dishonorably towards his fellow veterans and his fellow citizens, and he has continually sided with the rich - his second wife's people - against the rest of Americans, when it comes to the economy. To me, McCain's present life does not meet the test that earns respect.

You certainly can, and I'm sure will, vote for John McCain. I would ask you though, to look with less prejudice at Barack Obama's actual statements - not just the republican vitriol about his statements, and decide whether an old hot head is actually better than a younger but more thoughtful, and less angry, man.

Respectfully,

Bush must be doing something right  because we have killed thousands of  terrorists and have not been hit again.   I  remember  Rudy G's words after 9-11  " Thank God Bush is President".

He said that because  Clinton was in charge  when the USS Cole was attacked and he did nothing.   Seems like your party is all about welfare and nothing about defense.

another neighbor

Your welfare banter is getting old. It has absolutely no basis. What is apparent is that the Republicans have allowed for personal and corporate corruption and out and out stealing the country blind. Now look where you "other neighbors" have taken this country. Don't you have any pride?  Guess not; you would rather say those  wanting to live by high moral standards want welfare. That is CRAP.  You are just finding ways to justify greed. Well, in case you haven't noticed, your tolerance for the insatiable desire for wealth is  about to take our country down.  What about love thy neighbor? Do unto others as they would do unto you? You only  love (poor choice of words, maybe worship is better) your rich neighbors and those who have justified their pursuit of the almighty dollar by making you believe greed is a source of pride. They (the greed driven) make it ok that you desire the same, huh? I am not proud that we look up to wealth no matter how it has been obtained, no matter the horendous cost. Open your eyes. We have been misled for almost 8 years. If you think McCain has a clue about middle America you are sooooo wrong. Middle Americans are the grit of this country, don't forget that. McCain is not the man who can lead us into the future. He will do no less than continue what Bush started. His record shows that. He has had 26 years to stop the corruption and has not. Seems like he has spent a lot of time buying up lots of houses though.      As to  your great leader, Bush has allowed for the Al-Qaeda to flourish. Yeah, good defense. 911? How could it have happened if you believe Bush had our defense as a top priority? We need a real leader--that is Obama.

I guess the high moral standards you refer to are Bill the liar " I did not have sex with that woman"  Clinton.

not to mention "I don't have a racist pastor" Obama/   and I got cheap financing for my home from a felon / Obama

and I really don't hang out with terrorists even though he vouched fo one /  Obama.

He did alot in the 160 days he's been in office.  I can hardley wait.
tired of your greed

Clinton may have been a scoundrel, having had numerous affairs, but he did so without raping the entire country (Bush and his fellow greed mongers). His afffairs were consensual. Tacky, yeah. Hate to mention it but half the population (senators, past presidents, general population, etc., etc.,etc., have had affairs and divorces, personal betrayals.  However he was one hell of a president and remains one hell of a humanitarian.

Clinton remained popular with the public throughout his two terms as President, ending his presidential career with a 65% approval rating, the highest end-of-term approval rating of any President since Eisenhower.  In addition to his political skills, Clinton also oversaw a boom of the U.S. economy. Under Clinton, the United States had a projected federal budget surplus for the first time since 1969.

This debate is not about Clinton, he is not running. We have 2 choices-- Obama and McCain. One will honor the people, one will honor the wealthy people. One will lead all of us, one will lead a few of us.

It is time for a forward move. It is time to elect another man who is for the people. That is Obama. Not Mcain. Don't make that mistake. Do I trust Obama and his ability to handle foreign affairs? Damn right. He will not use John Wayne strongarm antics that are outdated. He will go to the table if necessary, talk, negotiate, use diplomatic resouces, know the full scope of technology available, know the full scope of the issues and protect our country as it has not been protected under Bush. He has the ability and the intelligence to see the WHOLE picture.

AND  I don't know how or why you would make such a malevolent statement about our Marine saluting or honoring our country by saluting. Very uncalled for.

Well it’s not about Bush either.  Those who post here know very well that the ‘powers’ of the president (or in our case, the mayor) are limited.  Promises mean little when you are dependant on congress and the house.  Neither McCain nor Obama have any experience as the president.  They both have good intent, as do all the posters on the stick.

Reality check:  there is no way any one can claim to know what is factually the best solution to our challenges, let along who is most capable of fixing everything.  In the real world votes are cast on gut feeling, not facts.  Either you like the guy or you don’t.

Obama Moves Up, McCain Down in Poll
By Gallup.com
posted: 37 MINUTES AGOcomments: 1587filed under: Election News, Barack Obama, John McCain

(Sept. 2 - Barack Obama leads John McCain, 50% to 42% among registered voters in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday -- just one point shy of his strongest showing of the year.
These results, from Sept. 25-27, span the time period since John McCain made the announcement that he was temporarily suspending his campaign and returning to Washington to work for a bipartisan solution to the financial crisis, and since Congressional leaders first announced progress towards the resolution of a financial bailout bill.

The results also include one complete day (Saturday) after the first presidential debate on Friday night. McCain had reached a point where he was tied with Obama earlier in the week, but Obama has gained steadily in each of the last three days' reports. Overall, Obama has gained four percentage points over the last three days, while McCain has lost four points, for an eight-point swing in the "gap" or margin.
Republican

Obama's up because people are blameing the housing crisis on Bush thanks to the liberal media.  Republicans or Bush did not start this mess it's been going on for years with blame on both sides.  I don't see anyone pointing any fingers at Clinton even though when Clinton was President the do gooders of America thought many of the lending regulations should be loosened so everyone regardless of wheather they could afford it,  should be able to own a home and live the dream.   The result was a bunch of people who shouldn't have been allowed to buy a car got homes under Govt programs with no money down and have now defaulted.  Another example of our soon to be socialist America gone bad and we all pay for it.

My Vote is for McCain even though he's the most liberal Republican I ever saw run for President.

If Pelosi was so gungho on this Bush bail out why did she launch into a political diatribe before the vote unless she wanted to position Barack as the Saviour of the Day.  A position that John McCain rightfuly deserves because of his ACTIONS last week.  Fortunatley for we Americans the Congress voted correctly today.  Bush could help by suspending the Capital Gains Tax by executive order.  Maybe everyone should shut up and let Palin speak.
