City Manager SearchWhy not appoint Chief Keough to the poisition of City Manager. Look at how much money we could save, and I'm sure he would do a good job.

I would be very surprised if he wanted it. And he is a good police chief. I would hate to lose him in that position.
The citizens of Edgewater are putting a lot of hope into a new CM. They voted for this and city council should take this new position seriously, hiring someone who is an experienced city manager. We don't need to keep hiring people who cut their teeth on Edgewaters dime. It is my opinion that this first position will require someone who has the ability to take the ball and run with it from the first day. This is a totally new form of government for our city. To make it work, we need to give it the best opportunity we possibly can. We have hired a very good search firm to assist us in finding the right candidate. I am very optimistic that we will.

Public Administration is a college degree. At the very least whoever fills the CM position should have a BS in Public Administration. Give our need for a solid transition into a new form of government a Master’s degree wouldn’t be too much to ask. Nothing against the Chief or any of the other people that we have spent years getting to know and love but the idea is to get some professional management. We need something different, not just the same collection of ideas and skills.

At the very least. That said, I still do not think we should settle for 'the very least'. This is a new position. Whoever fills it will be setting the tone for the future of our new government. I do not think that we should be playing around with someone who has no solid experience in city management. An assistant CM would probably be okay, depending on their history.

BS degree...no really...

Get a professionalI have a BS degree, and I am here to tell you, you should hire someone with more than that! An undergraduate degree is nice but it isn't focused professional training in a particular area. In fact, I don't think you can get a bachelors in Public Administration. I've never heard of it although some school may offer something like that somewhere.
We need a masters level person. I agree with JamieMac, get the most qualified person possible with the right education and hopefully some real life experience managing a city after they left the ivory tower!

A quick Google shows that you even find ‘certificate’ & Associate degrees in PA. I have total confidence that council will not settle for some online certificate.

I can assure you council will not settle for an online certificate. And I would hope that our search firm wouldn't even consider presenting us with a candidate with such credentials.
This Thursday the search firm will be at city council. We will be discussing the candidates criteria. Please join us and let your thoughts be known. This manager will be your city manager.

bs, really

Hire a proWhich was my point, ordinarily anything less than a masters isn't considered a professional degree in Public Administration.
Only quessing but I'll bet you can find an associate of arts in medicine on the internet too. That wacky internet...
Sounds like an interesting Council conversation coming this Thursday, a conversation Edgewater has been needing to have for a long, long time. I can't wait.

Question for JamieMacDo you have a "guesstimate" of how long it will take a search firm to find some candidates for the job?

We expect to be interviewing by late February to March. Hoping to have someone in place by late March.

1901I can't help but reflect where we have been and where we are headed. I offer my most humble respect for those whom have stepped to the plate and managed this city by the popular vote of Mayor. Some more "qualified" than others, all with vision and passion for the community. We owe all of our past and current Mayor our collective gratitude for taking on a job that we are just now begining to realize the breadth and scope of. I would not only hope that we get a Manager well educated and experienced in the art and science of municipal management but, one that will also have the same vision and passion as our past and current Mayor.
That is a tall order but I expect no less, after all, we are the City of Choice and I believe that to be true. Edgewater, Colorado should be the City where everyone want's to live. Highlands be damned. We should not strive to be the new Highlands, that will never happen. We need to be proud of whom we are. A neighbor friendly and diversified city called Edgewater.

How to do?I am guessing that Mayor McNufty has another friend in need of work that we can hire to be city manager. Why is the city wasting its money on a serch firm? We all know Bunnie has someone who is getting the job. Are we that stupid to believe she doesn't have this one wired just like all the rest. God, Edgewater should be called "City of hiring Bonnies incompetent Friends."
And Harlander giving all that nonsense praise of mayor's past and present is nuts. This one has shown herself to be a liar and a snake with no interest at all in furthering the City's vision. She is spiteful and petty and nasty. I thought Ronalda had lowered the bar, this one has buried it. Good riddance to incompetence and dishonesty - in with integrity and ability. Fight to keep the manager hiring process open and honest!!!!!!

I think Harlander was trying to turn the bitterness in this city around. Nice try, old man, but we Edgewaterians don't forget that easily.
To the cynic, Cornfused, do know that council (of which the mayor is not a part of until after a manager has been hired) chooses the city manager. I think they are more than prepared to do it right this time. (hoping, hoping....)

Is it true that the new 'treasurer' was hired by Bonnie who hired her sons temp firm to send her here in the first place?
I am a lot disappointed in that choice. She was fine for a temp, but not at all what we needed for a full time city treasurer.
What are her credentials?

This is exactly why a charter change was needed. Under the old charter the ‘city administrator’ (aka: city manager) would have been hired by the mayor and this person would have ‘served at the pleasure’ of the mayor.

Idid say | Quote: | | Some more "qualified" than others | . We can only hope Council does a good job in the selection process. The Charter Commssion in it's infinite wisdom knew that filling the position of City Manager could not be entrusted to a single person.

The future?Harlander, no truer words have been put in a post.
I'll call you "old man" the next time I see you.
I have the utmost confidence in this Council to hire a competent City Manager. Jamie, had stated a timeline which may or may not be reasonable. However, the Council can only do what they can do. It is limited to the applicants that apply. I don't feel that time should be a determining factor. Even though I am anxious for the future. This will be the most important vote any of the Council members will make.
