But just like McCain's campaign, he 's in trouble and he's going to throw mud and you are right there with him, aren't you "Patriot"? I don't think people are that stupid and I doubt you are changing any minds here. You are becoming a bit of a troll though...

Take the Political Topic downThere isn't any thoughful writing here. I don't need links to information, I can do my own research.
This political topic is vindictive and it is affecting other areas of the Stick, like Urban Planning.
I liked the Talking Stick better when it was about constructive ways to improve our community. This is only breeding hostility. Maybe we should have a mean spirted debate about religion while we're at it.
I won't be back until the election is over.

I cannot imagine nor would I want to be black in this country....Police profiling, being watched as if your a thief in a retail store. Having people cross the street to avoid you,Having women get off an elevator to avoid being alone with a black man. Being stopped by the same policeman time and time again cause you match the description of a holdup guy. My point here is that the ability to judge character is very important for the President of the United States. It is obvious to me that Barack Obama has not excersised good judgement in the past with his associations. Chalk it up to inexperience, education certainly could not be the excuse. He says he wants to sit down with the North Koreans, the Iranians and Hugo Chavez to work on diplomatic solutions. In any reasonable persons thinking, these are rouge states.
The President must select a Cabinet that will implement his policies. Set aside the fact that I disagree with Obamas policies, does he have the ability to select that Cabinet based on his prior judgement of character? That is a valid issue, as valid as McCaines judgement when he selected Palin. For my own part I don't see Palin as problematic. Reverend Wright, Tony Rezko and William Ayers are very problematic as is an association with ACORN.

At first I thought Obama was right on track but the more we learn about him the worse it gets. As the ACORN scandal begins to unfold http://article.nationalreview.com...ODdjOWYxZTIzZGIyNzEyMjE0ODI=#more the more I'm beginning to change my mind. We need honesty in the White House. OK, I don’t know how many times I have to do this, or why I even bother.
1. Berg is a nut case. He sued several Supreme Court Justices demanding that they disbar themselves. He sued Bush and Cheney for terrorism, claiming they had advanced knowledge of 9/11. In 2005, he was fined and sanctioned for a laundry list of unethical behavior, including filing a lawsuit against a company solely because the company was suing his client.
http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1122023117263
2. Obama has released a valid copy of his birth certificate. Even the ultra-right wing conservative Worldnetdaily.com has debunked Berg’s claims.
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=73214
In fact, some of the “blogger evidence” Berg relies on was fabricated, according to WND’s own research.
However, FactChecker.org says it obtained Obama's actual birth certificate and that the document was indeed real. The site discredited some of the claims of Internet bloggers, such as that the certificate as viewed in a scanned copy released by Obama's campaign lacked a raised seal. FactChecker.org also established that many of the alleged flaws in the document noted by bloggers were caused by the scanning of the document.
A separate WND investigation into Obama's birth certificate utilizing forgery experts also found the document to be authentic. The investigation also revealed methods used by some of the bloggers to determine the document was fake involved forgeries, in that a few bloggers added text and images to the certificate scan that weren't originally there.
3. Berg’s lawsuit is demanding Obama produce things that DO NOT EXIST. How can Obama produce citizenship papers or a birth certificate from Kenya when there aren’t any? It’s like demanding someone produce evidence that they were born on Mars.
4. McCain has not produced a “vault” birth certificate, either. He has been sued twice to produce a birth certificate and prove he was born on U.S. soil. Both times, the case was thrown out because the judge ruled the person filing the suit did not have standing. He did show a copy of a birth certificate, but not a “Vault” birth certificate. In fact, there are questions as to whether a vault copy even exists.
Curiously enough, there is no record of McCain's birth in the Panama Canal Zone Health Department's bound birth registers, which are publicly available at the National Archives in College Park. A search of the "Child Born Abroad" records of the U.S. consular service for August 1936 included many U.S. citizens born in the Canal Zone but did not turn up any mention of John McCain
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-...e/2008/05/01/AR2008050103224.html
Let’s play the game, then, shall we? Was McCain actually born off the military base? Did his mother deliver him outside of the U.S. territory? To be honest, if there was trickery involved, it is more likely to have come from the McCain side than the Obama side. McCain’s father and grandfather were powerful admirals. If their heir was born outside of U.S. soil, they would have had more to loose and have a greater reason to cover it up.
Now let’s look at Obama’s mother. Would she have had a reason when Obama was born to fake where he was born? Moreover, would she have had the influence to have actually convinced the State of Hawaii (which issued the birth certificate) to go along with her scheme? Was his mother plotting even then to get him into the White House?
Or, are they both actually U.S. citizens, and we can all agree all this nonsense is stuck on stupid and a distraction from the real issues?

It ain't soPatriot, I gotta hand it to you. You don't give up.
But sorry, this is old news - and not worth much to the McCain campaign.
Even IF it were true, Obamas mother was a US citizen, so Obama is also a natural citizen.
McCain was not born in the US. He was born in the Panama Canal. His father was in the military, a US citizen, and so this makes McCain a natural citizen.
So, we have one candidate born in Hawaii, one in the Panama Canal. Both are 'natural' citizens.

Reverend Wright speaks to hate for America as a Black person...I believe that hate does no one any good .....I also believe that if white people faced the racism the hate and violence would go up times 10.Question # 1: Do you agree or disagree that their is racism in this country?? From regular white people? From the police towards blacks??? From the judicial system???? Really easy to answer......Would you want to be an african american in this country????

Mrs. Guest
First, you are assuming that I am “white” or at the least that I am not “black”. May I ask where you came to that conclusion? Because I’m not for Obama and his obvious socialistic tendencies? Now who’s being racist? As to being black in 21st Century America? Well I guess you would have to go back to Dr. Martin Luther King. Did you listen to his words? Did you believe them? Did you see what was accomplished? As a black American I would first thank God that I am an American. I would act and live an honorable life and expect to be treated in an honorable way. I would ask no quarter be given me because of the color of my skin and I would treat my fellow Americans and humans at large with the same respect I would expect be given me if due. I would realize that if I choose to be a “victim”, then I will be treated as such and that I and I alone am responsible for empowering myself to succeed. If I were a black American in 2008, I would not be voting for Barack Obama and I would find comfort in knowing that I was not the only black American that feels that way. That is what I would do as a black American today but, as you have assessed, I could not possibly know what it is like to be a person “of color”. Or could I? I have been called by the N word, and I deal with it by dignity.
So the easy answer to your easy question is, yes, and proudly.

I think that statement would go for any "color" of skin , languages spoken ,or social class. If you are in America and are making a living , (not sending it back to the home country), providing for your family. Then you should feel luck. You should respect the laws and rules of the USA. If you can not follow the laws and rules then you should just leave.

In sharp contrast to his tough talk about ethics reform in government, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., approached a well-known Illinois political fixer under active federal investigation, Antoin "Tony" Rezko, for "advice" as he sought to find a way to buy a house shortly after being elected to the United States Senate.
The parcel included an adjacent lot which Obama told the Chicago Tribune he could not afford because "it was already a stretch to buy the house."
On the same day Obama closed on his house, Rezko's wife bought the adjacent empty lot, meeting the condition of the seller who wanted to sell both properties at the same time and transferred that lot to Obama.
Rezko had been widely reported to be under investigation by the U.S. attorney and the FBI at the time Obama contacted him and has since been indicted on corruption charges by a federal grand jury in a case that prosecutors say involves bribes, kickbacks and "efforts to illegally obtain millions of dollars."

Half the truth is nothing but a lieI understand what Mrs. Guest is saying. Edgewater does go 10MPH backwards most of the time and the secrets and lies are rampant. Good for her, for calling it the way she sees it. You don't have to agree, but she has a right to say it.
Further more (for those of you who don't get out in it) it's a big world out there with lots of different kinds of people. The more you are out in "it" the more you meet all kinds of people. Having met someone or serving on a board with someone doesn't mean you are like them, personally, or are colluding with them. This guilt by association nonsense is just that - nonsense. Why, I've sat on boards here in town with people, believe me, I had nothing in common with.
So, go back and do your research. Find out who else sat on that education board with Obama and Ayers. Let's see if you have the fairness to post here what you found out. I dare you.

OK so we will just deal with math and stay away from credibility. Obama want's to raise the taxes on anyone making over $250,000 a year. That would include most small businesses that employ 50 or fewer people. With the increased taxes what do you think they are going to do? That's right, cut benefits and or eleminate positions. These are the same people that employ most Americans (and some illegal immigrants as well). Think auto repair shops, restuarants and small retail or service shops. Obamas health plan will result in a savings of $2300 a year per family for a government ran health care system (we all know how effecient the government is). McCains puts $5000 back into your pocket for quality health care. Obamas system rewards failure, McCains rewards success. What I want to hear is tax breaks only for those big businesses that bring jobs back home. Neither candidate has effectively showen that their plan will do that. Neither candidate has altered their plan to take into account the new economic crisis. Obama couldn't implement his plan if he tried under the current situation. McCain offers no better. They simply don't have time to identify and address the issue before election day.
On foreign policy McCain wins, most pundits even agree. Health? Obama smokes and McCain is elderly. Either could die in office. Palin VS Biden? Palin knows about energy as much as anyone on either ticket. Biden is well, Biden. That would be George Bush II if there ever was one.
Those are my thoughts flawed as they may be.

I was almost inclined to give you some points for a well written post. But you didn't play by your own rules of "Let's stick to math and stay away from credibility."
1. You suggest that only small businesses employ illegal immigrants.
2. McCain would give me a tax cut, but he would tax my employer paid medical benefit. It's a wash.
3. "Biden is well, Biden" goes against your "stick to the math" quote, because it doesn't mean anything other than you don't like him.
4. "That would be George Bush II if there ever was one?" There is one - George W. Bush. Don't you rember George H.W. Bush?
To your credit, I will give you points for admitting that your thoughts may be flawed. Although I won't keep an official score.

I wouldn't agrue the point that big business highers illegal immigrants but I would be willing to bet small business highers the majority. Big business mainly goes for job outsourcing. More history, less hysteriahttp://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/he_lied_about_bill_ayers.html
an excerpt from factcheck.com
"Bill Ayers' notoriety dates from the radical, anti-Vietnam War group he helped to start in 1969, splintering off from the activist Students for a Democratic Society. The members of the new group, the Weather Underground, favored shows of violence to further their cause. On March 6, 1970, though, three of them blew themselves up in a Greenwich Village townhouse during a bomb-making session gone badly awry. Ayers and his fellow Weathermen, as they were called, soon dropped out of sight.
Barack Obama, who was born Aug. 4, 1961, was 8 years old at the time.
The Weather Underground continued setting off bombs, including one in a men's lavatory in the Capitol building in 1971 and another in a women's restroom in the Pentagon in 1972. Nobody was killed, due to evacuation warnings the Weathermen sent out in advance.
After the Vietnam War ended, the group's activities petered out. In 1980 Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, another member, surfaced and turned themselves in to police. Because of illegal federal wiretaps, pending charges against Ayers for allegedly inciting a riot and conspiring to bomb government sites had been dropped."
Notice in this article Bill Ayers was never convicted of anything. Also note, no one was hurt in these protest bombings (except 2 Weathermen!) because the Weathermen always phoned in a warning for people to leave the building before the bombs went off.
Also, for those of you who were too young to remember, we were in Vietnam and thousands of people were dying for no good reason. It was an uprising to stop a war and it succeeded in ending an unjust war.
I still support the protests against Vietnam, I suspect if Bill Ayers had to do it over again he might have chosen a more non-violent path but the fact is he is not a terrorist, or a felon but a college professor. I actually admire him and his wife.
If you get a chance sometime there are a couple of movies you should watch one is McNamara's War and the other is the Weatherman Underground (2002), a documentary.
You forget when Bill Ayers was a Weatherman he was also a young college student with friends dying in a war. I was glad to read at the end of the Factcheck article on this topic that Mr. Ayers has never regretted what he did or why. I don't think he should either.

Good then I'm hypothetically going to come over to your house after warning you and bomb it. I am years from now going to say I am not sorry and then chum up with young person. Serve on a few committees with him, share my political ideaology with him and support him in his future run for office,
Are you going to vote for that Councilman? Obama has to much baggage, put him on another plane.

Patriot,
Nobody ever said that only one group can keep score. I don't call myself a liberal, but I'm sure you'll continue to do so. So in the spirit of your last post, "Why is it that only the bible thumpers get to do the name calling." Just kiddin'. I don't know if you're a bible thumper or not.
A problem I have with your agrument is that it sounds like it's ok for big business to hire illegal immigrants as long as they hire less than small business. So in a sense, you are a scorekeeper.
I'm afraid I won't talk religion with you. Not because I plan to run for public office, but rather, because I don't talk or argue religion. I have my spirituality, a relationship with God, but I'm not one to go to a church. I think Country Music Legend Don Williams said it best when he sang, "I don't believe that heaven waits, for only those who congregate. I like to think that God is love. He's down below, he's up above..." Oh oh, am I talking religion?
Like I said, neither of us is going to sway the other's vote. I won't play the fact game, or the rumor game, or the mudslinging game, or the scorekeeping game, (well not on this thread, but I will on the other "Link" thread because ww losing and I want to keep score) but I will engage in some good, written dialogue with you, because I respect, but don't agree with, your opinion.

Believe it or not, I'm not a conservative either. Just an independent looking at options. Like you, I pretty much have made up my mind.
